Notes Toward a Review of The New Laws of Love: Online Dating and the Privatization of Intimacy

Marie Bergstrom ends her new examination of the changes wrought by the mass use of online dating services with an important statement: that the neoliberal art of government is self-government. 

 

It also makes one wonder if the increase in people remaining single could be a product of this privatization of intimacy if only due to unfamiliarity with meeting people that way. One might say they were "stuck" in older methods of meeting people. It would be interesting to see what spillover occurs among those left dissatisfied in this new dating arena and whether or not it results in actual commodification of intimacy through the use of escort services to satisfy those desires instead.
